Gen-AI Competencies Workshop @ ECTEL24

Successful integration of generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen-AI) like ChatGPT in higher education requires specific competencies. In this workshop, we will develop a competency model to identify the essential skills for effective Gen-AI integration in higher education.

The project is lead by members of the Bern University of Applied Sciences (Prof. Dr. Kerstin Denecke & Daniel Reichenpfader) and the University of Bern (PD Dr. André Klostermann & Isabelle Geppert)

We utilized the Delphi method to gather insights from 21 higher education lecturers, AI experts, and academic professionals through two rounds of data collection. Initially, experts completed open-ended questionnaires, which were analyzed to identify potential competencies. In the second round, these competencies were reviewed and rated by the experts for their relevance to the competency model.

Take part in our workshop at the ECTEL 20204 conference. Together, we will finalize the competence model by:

  1. Synchronize understanding of key terms.
  2. Structure terms into overarching themes.
  3. Rank their relevance to lecturers' tasks.
  4. Translate concepts into practical teaching and learning applications.

By the end of the workshop, we aim to produce a competence model with defined categories and concrete abilities, skills, and knowledge as well as practical examples.

Are you interested?

If you are interested in participating in our half-day workshop, please submit a brief application by August 15th. Your application should outline your expertise and provide your initial thoughts on the competencies needed for successfully implementing Gen-AI in higher education.
